For our simple machines unit in Science I had the students create their own wheel and axel machines. They were so into the project that they would stay in for their break to work on them. Before they were allowed to begin their building they had to create a detailed diagram of their machine describing how it would work. Once their diagram was approved by me they were allowed to begin constructing. I could not believe how good the machines turned out, some of the students hand crafted them out of wood and cocunt shells.
We later raced them, on your marks....get set....
GO!
She was the winner of the race with a wagon made of cardboard and coconut shells.
